Half Nelson: A film directed by Ryan Fleck

Dan (Ryan Gosling) is a young school teacher who struggles to keep reality in his everyday life.  He uses a dialectic system to replace the standard curriculum.

Drey (Shareeka Epps) is a student who plays on the basketball team that Dan coaches in his spare time.  She catches him freebasing in the locker room.

The two lives of these characters start to cross over when we discover that Drey’s brother was convicted and imprisoned for selling drugs, for the neighbourhood dealer Frank, who tries to convince her to start where her brother left off.

The film revolves around Dan trying to protect Drey from Frank and Drey helping Dan to confront his drug habit.

Ryan gosling was nominated for an Oscar for this performance. The film was greeted with high critical acclaim and found its way on many top ten films of 2006

If you get chance, watch this film.  I give it 8 out of 10.
