'The comb over' by Luke Plant

I have revisited the degree show at Wolverhampton University again today.  I was particularly taken with Luke Plant's beach hut entilted 'The Comb over'.  He has kindly gave me permission to include his work on my blog.  Please take the time to visit the degree show their is some fantastic work on display.

Information on 'The Comb Over' by Luke Plant.

There are numerous ideas and reasons behind the making of this work.
Originally there was a desire to make work which was purely to do with my own personal connection to Borth in Mid-Wales, this led to developing an interest in found objects and the idea of bringing something back from the area to work with in the studio.
Upon starting the collection it quickly became apparent that there is a vast amount of plastic washed ashore or left behind on British beaches. This has become a concern of mine and something which I have tried to draw attention to with this work.
By manipulating the found objects and playfully arranging them I aim to intrigue the viewer into questions about where such objects have came from, who used or made them, why have they been collected; which in turn may lead to the viewer pondering whether these found objects are waste products or art?
By using a beach hut, the audience will hopefully have an immediate association via their own childhood memories; days out at the beach, beach combing and perhaps collecting.
Upon viewing the work inside displayed on the drift-wood shelving, the audience will hopefully develop their own narrative about the origins of the object and perhaps see each object in their own unique way.
The eccentricity of Britain and the love we have as a nation for weird traditions, such as owning beach huts, only adds to the quirkiness of this work.
The installation should hopefully provoke thoughts of its creator living a hermit style life, living in his hut, making the tools he requires to survive, from his days savaging on the beach.
